Non-Executive Director, Advance Northumberland

Advance Northumberland is a diverse property investment and development business, delivering opportunities to improve prosperity, tackle inequalities, and drive economic growth in support of Northumberland County Council. As the organisation enters an exciting new phase of transformation and growth, we are seeking experienced Board Members to help shape the future of the county.

Guided by a refreshed five-year strategy and an ambitious business plan, Advance Northumberland operates across five interrelated business areas, creating a robust and dynamic platform for growth and impact:

  • Homes & Maintenance – The largest private residential landlord in Northumberland, managing a portfolio of 1,100 high-quality, affordable homes for rent.

  • Investments & Commercial – Ownership, management and development of a diverse portfolio, including 300 acres of development land and 1.7 million sq ft of high-quality business accommodation.

  • Ascent Homes – A regional housebuilder delivering high-quality new homes across Northumberland.

  • Projects – Managing the full lifecycle of development initiatives, from concept through to completion.

  • Sustainability – A newly established business area focused on managing land designated as a Habitat Bank.

We are particularly interested in individuals with housebuilding, development or commercial property experience. A strong strategic finance background is highly desirable, including experience as a qualified accountant, quantity surveyor, or in a senior commercial or revenue role, enabling you to provide robust financial insight, oversight, and challenge at Board level.

As a Board Member, you will contribute to governance and strategic decision-making as we accelerate delivery across housing, commercial and industrial development, regeneration and sustainability. With revenues projected to nearly double by 2030, this is a compelling opportunity to influence an organisation of growing scale, complexity, and ambition.

At the heart of Advance Northumberland’s work is a commitment to regeneration, sustainable growth, and social value, ensuring that profits are reinvested to maximise long-term benefit for the county’s communities, economy, and environment.

This is a defining moment to join the Board. If you bring commercial judgement, financial acumen, and a passion for place-based regeneration, we would welcome your interest.

Help shape Northumberland’s future. Join our Board.
