Chair and Vice-Chair, Alpha Living, £5,750 / £3,916
Help shape homes and communities where older people thrive.
At Alpha Living, we believe everyone deserves a safe, welcoming home and the opportunity to live independently, stay connected, and truly belong. We are passionate about creating supportive communities where older people can thrive — now and into the future.
This is a pivotal time to join Alpha Living. As we continue to deliver our growth strategy and respond to the evolving needs of our residents, we are seeking an exceptional Chair and Vice Chair to provide strategic leadership, strong governance, and clear direction for the organisation.
These roles offer a unique opportunity to shape the future of a values-led housing provider, ensuring that Alpha Living remains resilient, innovative, and deeply focused on positive social impact.
About the roles
As Chair or Vice Chair, you will provide leadership to the Board and executive team, fostering a culture of openness, collaboration, and accountability. You will play a critical role in setting strategic direction, maintaining high standards of governance, and ensuring Alpha Living continues to deliver excellent outcomes for residents.
You will:
• Provide visible, inclusive leadership to the Board and support a high-performing governance culture.
• Lead and shape Alpha Living’s strategic direction, ensuring alignment with our purpose, values, and long-term ambitions.
• Work closely with the Chief Executive, offering constructive challenge, support, and guidance.
• Ensure robust governance, regulatory compliance, financial oversight, and effective risk management.
• Facilitate effective Board discussions and decision-making, ensuring all voices are heard.
• Act as an ambassador for Alpha Living, building strong relationships with residents, partners, regulators, funders, and stakeholders.
• Champion our commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
The Vice Chair will support the Chair in these responsibilities and act as deputy when required, providing continuity of leadership and strategic oversight.
About you
You will bring senior leadership experience and a strong track record of success, ideally gained within housing, care, public service, regulated environments, or complex organisations.
We are particularly interested in candidates who can offer expertise in one or more of the following areas:
• Housing, supported housing or social care
• Governance and regulatory compliance
• Legal
• Digital, technology or transformation
• Finance, audit or risk
You will also demonstrate:
• Strategic insight and sound judgement, with the ability to balance challenge and support.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to lead diverse groups.
• A collaborative and inclusive leadership style.
• Integrity, empathy, and a strong commitment to social purpose.
• The ability to dedicate sufficient time to the role, including Board meetings, preparation, and key stakeholder engagement.
Previous Chair or Board experience is welcome but not essential. What matters most is your leadership capability, values alignment, and passion for improving the lives of older people.
Our values
Everything we do is guided by our values:
• Bold & Brave – creating space for belonging and inspiring others to grow.
• Compassionate – putting people at the heart of all we do.
• Honest – being open, respectful and inclusive.
• Positive – focusing on the best possible outcomes for everyone we support.
What’s in it for you?
This is a highly rewarding opportunity to:
• Influence the future direction of a trusted housing provider.
• Make a meaningful social impact at board leadership level.
• Work alongside committed, values-driven professionals.
• Gain or further develop senior non-executive leadership experience.
Salary is £5750 for the Chair and £3,916 for the Vice-Chair plus reasonable expenses.
